There are various ways to direct a domain address to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by creating a CNAME record. In case you own a domain name and you have developed a website through some online service which provides you with a service subdomain, you can easily link the two by setting up a CNAME record for your-domain.com that directs to subdomain.provider.com. What you're going to achieve in this way is that www.your-domain.com is going to be in the browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. You should know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain address may have will stop functioning, so you can't have both a CNAME record pointing to one provider and working email addresses with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and often additional configuration may be necessary with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Shared Hosting

If you have a shared hosting plan through our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it will take you a few mouse clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account via the Hepsia Control Panel included with each and every plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, picking out the type, which will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the change. In case you have never added this kind of record before, we have a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we'll help you with this task. If you have built an Internet site using another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, like Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a couple of mouse clicks in your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, which comes with every single one of our semi-dedicated server accounts, allows you to create a CNAME record easily. If you want to create a private URL for your emails, to point a domain name to a subdomain in the account or to forward a domain name to another company and use some third-party service which they provide, it won't require more than three clicks to set up this sort of record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted inside the semi-dedicated account will be listed in a separate section in the Control Panel, so when you're there, all you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to set up and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then type in the actual record text. For your benefit, you can watch a short video within the CP regarding how to create a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, which is available in the DNS records section.
